Inaugural New Mexico Coffee Roaster Competition

For National Coffee Day 2018, we held the Inaugural New Mexico Coffee Roaster Competition. Fronted by Oval Dogs Coffee and hosted by Villa Myriam, each participating roaster received green beans from Burundi, purchased via the Grounds for Health auction. All proceeds from this auction go to help prevent cervical cancer in coffee-growing communities by providing knowledge, screenings, and increased access to care.

Participating Roasters

The coffees were blind cupped by a panel of coffee experts, as well as blind brewed and served for the public to vote for their favorite. After the votes from the cuppings and public were tallied, Rachel from Red Rock Roasters was declared the winner! They went home with bragging rights and a custom trier, courtesy of Oval Dogs Coffee.

Clean Water Project Fundraiser

Prosum Roaster’s Clean Water Project aims to partner with their suppliers in Ethiopia to protect water sources threatened by the waste the coffee industry has left behind in its processing methods. The Project will preserve existing water sources and ultimately work to purify other contaminated sources, for the health of community in coffee producing areas and to set a standard for environmental responsibility within the coffee industry.

On Friday, July 28th stop by any of these locations to purchase a t-shirt for $15 to support the project!

UPDATE: Thanks to the support of our members and communities, we were able to raise over $1000 for the Clean Water Project. Thank you for helping us give back to the coffee farmers who keep us going!

This video shows a washing station in Kellensoo Mokanisa where the workers are manually agitating the coffee in a fermentation tank to remove the pulp from the bean. This produces what is known as a washed coffee and the byproduct of which is bacteria in the water. Cindy • owner of Prosum Roasters
